Ercon Construction, the low bidder for this project, selected the Stresswall elevated base counterfort wall option over the Hilfiker crib wall system.  The reach of the wall is approximately 1.5 miles.  The counterforts were installed into the clay embankment via the slot cut installation technique.  The crib option would have required a large open cut and shoring.

The assumption, at the time, was that the precast components would be installed in a period of relatively dry weather (after hurricane season). Of course, the prevalent north wind shifted and so inshore winds prevailed.  In spite of the unanticipated weather the wall  components were placed without significant delays.
